Great America for sale?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Cryptkeeper on October 9th, 2007, 10:24 pm
NO, NOT THIS ONE. :P

Rumor has it CF wants to dump PGA. The 49ers might purchase the park, if allowed. The football team is being partially blocked by CF, who is opposing the $854 million new stadium they want to build. The team will purchase the park, if it has to, in order to get their stadium.

So, will we have another amusement park disappear shortly before our eyes? Will the OTHER Great America be going away? Or, if allowed to buy the park, will the 49ers continue to operate it? (no) And most importantly of all..if the park did vansish forever, would anyone miss it? (doh!).

the land that GA sits on in Santa Clara is zoned only for an amusement park, which is why it wasnt bulldozed a long time ago in favor of office buildings. 49'ers are going to have a hell of a time convincing the city to change that.

" But whether the team could actually buy the park is not clear, because of a provision in the city's lease with Great America that says only a company with proven experience operating theme parks can run the park. Any changes to the lease must be approved by both Cedar Fair and the Santa Clara City Council.

"Any sale requires the city's approval and is contingent on having a class 'A' theme park operator . . . with proven financial ability operate it," Deputy City Manager Carol McCarthy said."

hey now, I wouldnt mind seeing that park bulldozed into the ground as much as anyone, but after being up all day I thought it was a legitimate question. :)

good article, basically says the park will be around no matter what.

Hmmm...the 49'ers running it? I'd much rather have the 49'ers run that park than I would the Redskins running every SF park in the world...
