I think it's smart. Shapiro kept saying how he wanted to turn the parks into Disney type experiences, and when you think about it both Disney and Universal have differently themed areas that focus usually around one or two big rides, and a lot of other smaller supporting rides around those bigger ones. As much as I like the original themed areas in SFGAm you must admit that SUF is a little out of place in Orleans Place. Batman and V2 are also a little lost in Yankee Harbor. The park has changed a lot since the park first opened...
Top 5 wood-5-Goliath 4-Ravine Flyer II 3-Phoenix 2-Voyage 1-El Toro Top 5 Steel- 5-Velocicoaster 4- Maverick 3- Fury 325 2-Steel Vengeance 1-X2 Coaster Count: 444
^That's a good point. And I like the fact that alone with changing the themed lands, they changed the park name to reflect it. If Great America were to ever retheme, the name "Great America" would have to go as well.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter

Check that out, it looks like what Chang used to look like.
It looks cool with the sun setting behind it!

This one at Discovery Kingdom (formerly Marine World) is the unique impulse coaster.
If you are just referring to color schemes, all you have to do is travel to Valley Fair. Their Impulse coaster (Steel Venom) is the exact layout and pretty much the same colors as SFGAm's.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
