Scroll down to October. It's really sad to see a park dissapear no matter if you enjoyed it, or hated it. Santa's Village was a big part of my childhood before Great America came along, and will always hold a spot dear to me.
I am glad my daughter got the chance to visit it before it closed. Now I wonder if I should but together a video tribute with movies that I took on my last visit there.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.

That's sad. I loved that park as a really little kid. Sad to see it go. :(

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

How sad. :( I remember going there and being amazed by watching Galaxi and then Typhoon. They helped me get hooked on coasters.

Yeah, i saw this on the news last night. It's sad, but it really didn't have anything that i would consider paying for so i can understand them having trouble. Now, if kiddieland were to officially shutdown, that's when i'll cry, I never really went to Santa's Village.

I know this is a longshot but I emailed Paula (PR rep for Holiday World) about this park and she did respond that Will Koch is aware of what is going on.

Maybe they will show up for the auction and get some rides or if a miracle happened, they would possibly try to gain control of this park and operate it.

One can only hope. :D

The one ride that turned the tide for this park was the roller coaster. Other than that, it went downhill from them. In order for it to open up again (which it's not) they would need a new roller coaster. Galaxi was just fine unless it just wouldn't operate. Racing Rapids was just fine next door. Instead of buying that, they should've spent money on the other side of the park where the horses used to be. One side of the park was more fruitful (Coney Island side) while the other side wasn't (Petting Farm, and horses).

No, they would not need a new rollercoaster to turn the park around.

Get your head out of the sand and realize parks aren't just about coasters.

The park is closed due to the operator owing a boatload of money.

These kind of parks can survive without a coaster if they are maintained, have a good selection of family rides, are affordable compared to the corporate parks, and overall please the kids.

Kiddieland has had the same wooden coaster since the 50's and has done decent since. Only reason that park is being threatened is due to a family dispute.

And why does the operator owe a boatload of money? That roller coaster was expensive, and it never made up the money they spent for it. Kiddieland's roller coaster doesn't beat you up a lot, and can be quite fun. Roller coasters don't really matter in kiddie parks (except for a small one), but they do help. That ride is just junky in my opinion.

^ While I agree that Typhoon is one of the worse coasters I have ever been on, its not the reason why the park is in trouble. The owner hasn't paid the $730,000.00 in rent, and taxes, and on top of that, the park owns $70,000.00 in unpaid untility bills.

I also agree that The Little Dipper at Kiddieland is a great kiddie coaster.

On the website, they are of course selling this ride. They are selling it for $650,000 which is a reduced price from what they first wanted. This is a used ride. They probably spent a million on this ride.
http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=425

Also, in the debt, they added a new parachute ride that goes up, and then goes down along with a Zamperla Crazy Bus. All this stuff adds up to what they can't pay. If they didn't buy all this stuff, they would probably still be in business. Thus, that is why I say that the roller coaster killed the park.

It's not because the roller coaster isn't good, because the Zamperla Dragon could be horrible, and the park would still be good. By the way, more recently than not, they also added the helicoptors in Coney Island, and a newer Zamperla Dragon than they originally had to begin with.

In the end (my opinion) is that the "new" coaster killed the park, and that's why they couldn't pay off the debt. They should have kept the Galaxy, and bought other flat rides instead along with maintenance on rides such as paint on the Yo-Yo (not which probably was a 1 million.)

I especially feel that roller coaster didn't bring in the crowds that they were expecting. Not many people like that ride. It's quite easy for Six Flags to plop down another roller coaster, and get the money back. It's a huge park with other roller coasters, and it costs a lot of money to get in.

That Yo-Yo was really awesome. I wish Kiddieland would buy it. It actually tilted believe it or not. This wasn't a suttle tilt either. I think Six Flags should get to that auction and buy some of those rides for all there parks. (Reverchon Himalaya, Zamperla Dragon Coaster, Zamperla Galleon, Sellner Tilt-A-Whirl, Yo-Yo, Ferris Wheel wasn't bad, Zamperla Crazy Bus, Convoy (Little Trucks), Zamperla Balloon Race, the Bees that go in a circle, Hamptons, Tea Cups that are Snow Balls)

It's not like Six Flags doesn't have these rides already, plus newer ones that they don't.

The ones that they do have are:

Hampton (One at our park in Cartoon Network called Rock and Boulder themed to Flinstones.)
Tilt-A-Whirl at SFMM
Convoy at SFOG
Galleon at SFGAm (River Rocker basically), and SFStL
Balloon Race at SFGAm (BEB) and SFOG
Tea Cups at SFGAm
Yo-Yo at SFStL
Crazy Bus at SFGAm called Scooby-Doo something or another
A somewhat Himalaya is at Six Flags Great Adventure

The point is that Six Flags can stock up on these rides because some of the parks already have them, but you know how many parks there are. Of course, they would cheaper because they aren't new (auction), and maybe some just need a touch of paint. The only one that I think needs paint is the Yo-Yo.

Also, what about the waterslides? There are three waterslides that might be good for a Six Flags park especially the raft one. The closest our waterpark has to that is the green family slide which is a little different. The other blue ones are mat slides like Wahoo racers.

^ The reason why major parks do not have some of these rides is because they have low capacity.
