Systemax Inc. has completed its acquisition of defunct retailer Circuit City's e-commerce business and relaunched what it calls a "new and improved" CircuitCity.com Web site.
Systemax (NYSE: SYX) said in a statement that it plans to compete with other online retailers by offering discounted prices, fast shipping and a wide selection of products, as well as offering photo galleries and videos of thousands of consumer electronics and computer products.
The company already has the TigerDirect.com business and acquired CompUSA last year.
"This acquisition and quick launch of the all new CircuitCity.com further solidifies Systemax's position as a leader in online retailing of value-priced, branded computers and consumer electronics," said Richard Leeds, chairman and chief executive officer of Systemax. "Circuit City is one of the iconic brands in U.S. electronics retailing with a 60-year legacy."
A check of the Web site Monday showed CircuitCity.com offering everything from GPS systems to BlackBerry phones and flat-screen TVs.

They're back from the dead... that didn't last long...

I never knew that Montgomery Wards, and Service Merchandise are online.
 Bennigan's came back in some places too. I guess with the internet you have the followers of people of a store, and it's much easier to get rid of stuff rather than having hundreds and hundreds of stores. Maybe, there are 2 million people that liked Wards, and Service Merchandise for shopping, but yet there weren't enough people to keep them open before. So, the 2 million people get served online, and can buy stuff. Service Merchandise was an expensive store, and Wards always seemed empty when I went in that place. They had the store, than they started remodeling all of them, and than they just went bye-bye. I think it's more about the merchandise, and prices rather than remodeling. Yes, it's good to remodel every so often, but in your last efforts, don't waste it on remodeling. Try something else to bring people in the store again. "I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
For Bennigan's, the franchised stores were able to reopen at the discretion of their owners. All corporate owned Bennigan's were/are closed for good.

Yes, a few years ago. They are online and are doing catalogs again, but it's pretty much all home-crap.

^Don't think that these three companies that are online are the same as the businesses that had stores.
Other companies simply bought the naming rights of Wards, Service Merchandise, and now Circuit City to use on their online stores. I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Yeah, the company that has Circuit City's name and logo also has CompUSA. When they first relaunched Circuit City the two sites were almost completely identical except for the name and logo.
