I was sad when i read this. Though i'm not a big fan myself, I know that my dad loved him and thought he was hilarious. It was pretty shocking.

Technically George Carlin wouldn't be in heaven, he'd be in hell if you believe in that sort of mumbo jumbo. He was an atheist.
I did see him live twice, once in Rockford and once at the Chicago theater, was a damned good comedian. At least I liked him.

He's had repeated heart problems in the past so even though it's depressing it isn't a huge surprise.
