The War in Iraq: What are we still doing there????

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.

I just keep thinking, going back and forth on this. The war in Iraq, do we stay or leave???? I just can't make my mind up. Sure, if we leave, soldiers will be home, the country will have more money, but if we do leave, that just puts us at another risk of attack. I think right now, i'm at 70% pull out and 30% stay. What are your feeling on this? I think it's about time someone started a thread on this. I'm kinda startin to think that 5 years is long enough.

The helium inside Bush's head is pretty much locked in there.

I have never liked him. So I just wanted to say that.

Yes I know he may not be all to blame. I honestly don't see the point in war though. It's really sad what has been going on these past few years.

As President Bush said since 2005 "Give it Time".
When he still says the same thing till this day, it really worries me.
Hopefully congress, will make a smart move soon..which I hear their going to try pulling out in July..or at least stop funding it. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I have no comment on this...I have friends in Iraq right now...signed up voluntarily fully aware of what is going on there...

Another friend of mine transferred from Nat'l Guard to full Army a couple years ago. At that time, his recruiter PROMISED him he wasn't going to Iraq...long story short...he'll be going for his 2nd tour in Iraq in about 2-3 weeks....

All I got to say is none of my other friends better get reactivated....

Ok, so I guess I DID have some comments....

as far as the pull out...it does make me nervous because what if we pull and there are more attacks?? I've heard it said it's not "IF", but "WHEN?". We never got Osama when we should've...

Then again, if it has to be done at the expense of putting one of my friends in danger like that, I'd rather have him still around...thank GOD James is done...wouldn't go over well with me if my friend got thrown into that.

I see a flame war coming eventually in this thread... political threads never end well.

Thank you, fortune tellers, for contributing greatly to this thread.

But yes, I agree. We really don't have much business staying. Hell, we would've been fine not going in the first place. Luckily, it looks like whoever we're stuck with in '08's gonna start a withdrawal.

Yea, but with a lot of politicians, what they say to get votes and what they do in office is 2 different things....I don't care if you're REP or DEM...whether we pull out or not...Osama is still around...

I have a feeling we'll be there until they allow drilling in Alaska.

And as far as "another attack" if we leave, Iraq never attacked the US before and probably never would have. Now that the US launched a war with them though, I could see it happening. Thats why it's called war.

No, you're right. Iraq never attacked us. It was the Taliban, and i think they came out of Afghanistan if I remember correctly. We left there (or at least decreased troops) to go into Iraq because of "suspected WMD's...

I haven't heard anything news-wise of bin Laden being dead...I thought a "tape" came out a few months ago or something..IDK.

But at any rate....next subject??? :)

Back in 2000 when Bush was elected I was a little too young to care. So I just listened to my parents, they loved and voted for bush. But now its 2007 and my whole family hates him. He is not all to blame for the war, but his time is over and 75% of America hates him.

But don't get me wrong I totally support the troops and if this war get bad enough, (this is unlikely) but in three years (Ill be 18) ill join.

vietnam all over again, we'll be fighting this war for another 10 or so years. its not the right time to pull out because the U.S can not lose its status as a world super power, because if it did then we wouldn't be taken serious. the whole war was misdirected towards Iraq because we couldn't attack the saudi's who really crashed into the twin towers. The reason we couldn't attack them is because they are major oil suppliers, so if we war with them odds are we would lose due to lack of oil, and they have a surplus of money. democrats and republicans are full of crap, we need another Teddy Roosevelt.
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.

OUR OIL SUPPLY??? Can someone tell me why the heck we're using THEIR oil when in fact we have oil in reserves in Alaska (I think)? Hmmm...could local oil mean lower gas prices??? All the major oil companies would probably be screwed...which is probably WHY we don't use the oil supply in Alaska.

Basically sounds like Saudi can do whatever it wants because they got the oil over our heads....do we really wanna give them the satisfaction now???

Sorry, but the whole oil thing just gets to me....
