Some good sfgamworld humor from our friends at ARN&R!

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.
Postby Bob O on November 2nd, 2006, 5:55 pm
Study: Majority Of SFGAmWorld Forum Posts Written At Second Grade Reading Level Or Below

After conducting his latest study of various amusement park fan site forums, noted psychologist Don Petersen announced this week that 79% of the posts in the SFGAmWorld forums are written at or near a second grade level of comprehension. The site eclipses the previous benchmark held by the forums at Theme Park Critic by a full three grade levels.

“SFGAmWorld’s forums are a wasteland of poor grammar and atrocious spelling,” said Petersen in a phone interview with ARN&R, “and repeat offenders are commonplace. The boards are populated by enthusiasts who misspell “enthusiast” in their signatures, overly smug moderators with a deity complex, and people who engage in discussion about Tom Cruise-themed attractions.”

Normally, Petersen’s conclusions are primarily based on the Flesch Kincaid Readability Test, but in this particular case, special conditions were factored in.

“Most park forums are littered with hebetudinous gibberish, and one should almost expect subpar fundaments.” said Petersen. “But in this case, the absurd subjects of most of the forum topics were taken into consideration. Multiple examples of idiocy can be easily found, such as topics discussing Mr. Six merchandise being marked down, fantasy musings about if Marriott still owned the park, and a thread about an insecure poster desperately yearning for attention.”

Petersen is currently planning a 2007 Fright Fest trip to the Gurnee, IL park for his University of Iowa psychology doctoral students. “It’ll be a fascinating experience, getting to see some of these forum members in the wild, so to speak.” Petersen said. “I’m sure I’ll be reading many dissertations about how much smarter they are than the general public and their unhealthy obsession with park performers.”

It's true and probably some of the people that do post on here are still in second grade.

They just dissed the people who started those threads.

This is the first I've heard of them. I'm surprised they called my "If Marriott Still Owned the Park" thread idiotic. What's wrong with it?

That Laffy Taffy one is a good example of bad posting here though.

That was to funny and so spot-on.

The best one was them calling the people out who praise the LAFF show way to much and its performers.

I think a lot of what they said is true, but some of the things they mentioned is pretty dumb. I think making fun of topics like Jon Revelle's, for example, is stupid because this site was ment for those who actually do like this kind of stuff. Why would you make fun of someone else's interests? I think that's rude, but I did like one of the comments in there...I'm not gonna say though 8) themanoftheland might know..

Still most of the stuff they said in the original article was BS. When has anybody EVER seen Demon running 1 train? Great America still runs full capacity/sends out trains quicker than 90% of the parks i've been to.

Well they werent really making fun of SFGAm, they were making fun of SF in general and just pick a park at random. Absolutely Reliable isnt exactly a news site. And the more people here complain about it, the more fuel will be added to their fire.

I completely agree.

It's sad but true, a majority of this site need to go back to second grade, or maybe even further than that. That Laffy Taffy post was a perfect example.

Amazing. No, not the article instead but the fact that some guy has a job of studying fan sites of amusement parks.

Second grade level spelling? Wow, I was expecting so much more out of a fansite with the average of 14. Damn, I guess sfgamworld is out on joining in any spelling bees out there.

I love the fact that he completely craps on the content about threads about amusement park and things dealing with six flags like this is some kind of damn six flags fansite...oh wait

I love how this guy is implying how pathetic this forum while completely oblivious to the fact that no matter how pathetic we are, he's more pathetic for having to analyze "us." I'm glad you're putting that pretend degree to use. Dr. numbnuts.

But since this isn't the level of commuciation you're use to I'll dumb it down for you:

omg u blow lol go 6flags <3 mr 6 lol

Analyze that you ditz.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!
