If you didnt already notice the heat and humidity have returned over much of the area this afternoon. As a cold front currently parked over The northern plains continues to slide south, this sets the stage for some very active Thunderstorms this evening.
As it stands right now, the Storm Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma has placed the Chicago area under a Moderate Risk for Severe Weather tonight.
The main threat with these storms is damaging winds, very heavy rain, and large distructive hail. Also isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out as well.
How hot has it been near the Chicago area? It was 102 degrees today in Memphis with a heat index between 105-110 degrees and it's not getting any better down here.
Well, at the park today, they played an announcement about every 5 minutes about the national weather service issuing a severe thuderstorm warning, but.... the most severe weather I ever saw was about 6 and three-quarters drops on my arm.

Well, i'm in New Lenox which is a couple minutes from Joliet, so I would say it was pretty nasty, being a Tornado and all. From my work, i could clearly see the funnel cloud, but i didn't see a Tornado. The power stayed on, but the sirens went off for over 30 minutes. We got 5.5 inches of rain in about 1.5 hours and everything is flooded. So yeah, pretty eventful night at work to say the least and we sold over 30 sump pumps!

Yeah I wasn't very far from the Tornado(s) so it was a little scary. There were about 5-7 lightning strikes in my neighborhood, and those were loud as hell. One of them knocked the power out for some people, including me. We were under a flash flood warning as well. I have to admit it was a pretty cool storm.
^ Okay where do you live, because I have heard nothing on the news about 7 lightning strikes in one area and Im sure it would have been. I didnt hear anything about any "Tornados" anywhere either. The sirens were going off hear but only because of Funnel clouds on I-55 and I-80.
Since when do the news say "omgz there were 5 lightning strikes in the same area!"? It happens all the time so there's no point in the news talking about it. I saw what I saw. I thought there was a tornado because I was hearing on the radio that people saw a tornado and funnel clouds.
It's a thunderin' at my place right now. Ooo I do love thunderstorms.
Especially severe ones.
"There should be a B.O. squad that patrols the city like a "Smell Gestapo". To sniff 'em out, strip 'em down, and wash them with a big, soapy brush..."
