The Christianity Discussion.

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.
Postby david on May 1st, 2010, 1:05 pm
This will be quite the controversial topic here, and I realize that. If you want to come in here and post gibberish that will derail the topic, or that may offend someone, don't.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now on to the topic. For the past few days, I've been contemplating a lot about my religion. I'm a Christian, nothing more. By law, I'm Catholic, but by myself I have many disagreements with the Catholic Church. But that's beside the point. There is one thing I'd like to focus on.
The marriage of Jesus Christ
It's beside the point if you don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah, but personally, I've developed this thought that I know isn't original, but if we think of it. There is a substantial time period missing in The Bible that could have easily been Jesus starting a family, with Mary Magdalene. Proof?

- Missing time in the bible.
- Perfume on Jesus' body is to only be applied by the man's wife.
- Sat at the tomb of Jesus for days.
- Was the first to see him again. Jesus must have kept her in such a high regard.

I'd like to know what ya'll think of this.

Grew up Lutheran. Went to Lutheran school from pre-k to 8th grade....After that much "crap" being shoved down your throat, you begin to think...When you begin to think, you realize the bible doesn't make much sense...(A man living to be 1,000 + years old??) I mean come on.....Anyway, after I got out of the whole "Christianity" ways...I simply said screw it and I honestly don't believe in anything but life itself.

Same here, though replace Luthern with Roman Catholic. However I have and sometimes do still study major religions of the world, if only to have knowledge about what I am against, rather than being ignorant of it all. In fact I bet that at least 75% of people don't know that Jew's, Christians and Muslims all worship the same god and all stem from the exact same religion, they just follow the word of different prophets, those being Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. The Koran is technically the 3'rd testament of the bible.

lol I'm not ignorant about it, I just don't really believe in any religion. I am, however, accepting to all religions and people's views.

Sorry about the double post, but FParker, have you seen "Religulous" or "Lord, Save us from your followers"?

Both GREAT movies about religion and different aspects of it.

Jesus Christ Superstar, if you take out any depiction of humor, is also a good way to learn of the Christian faith. I wonder what Jesus would think if he saw the Christian Church today. Separated into millions of different religions. It's just a mess. I also wonder what he would think of the whole "no female priests" or the pedophilia in the Catholic Church.

Haven't seen those movies, will have to look into them.

Preists today are all about giving them $$ it is sad. I don't need someone to tell me exactly how to liv emy life. The church has lost so much credibility over the years due to those sex scandals it is disgusting. I do think you can worship the Lord and have faith and not go to church. At the end of the day you have God with you everyday and you don't need to go to church to spend time with him or pray.

Church bells by my house are ringing right now actually...(OMG A SIGN?) jk...

Anyways, the thing that I probably hate the most about church is the fact that someone is standing in front of everyone...and he is telling you "repeat after me"...so you do this for about 10 minutes. And...what was accomplished? It's not as heartfelt as it would be if you did it on your own, at home. They want everyone to be heartfelt about things, but how can you be when there is no originality, just repetition?

It's all a formality. Why should I have to kneel? The Lord knows I love and believe in him, so why should mass take an hour? Really, the important part is the Reading, Response Psalm, Gospel, and Eucharist. The rest is all a waste of time.

Church: 1 hour
Church: 20 minutes.

I did a lot of my own thinking when I was in Catholic School.

Teacher on first day: "You need to go to church every Sunday to worship the lord out of respect. It is your duty!"
Teacher on last day: "It's not like you're going to go to hell if you dont go to church, God wont really be mad."

I really don't think that God will torture me if I didn't go to Church. As long as I've kept the faith, what difference does it make? There is really only one true commandment, "Love one another as I have loved you." As long as you follow that, I don't see the problem.

If you(meaning anyone, not a specific person) are religious, that is one thing. But to follow the word of some "leader" in any organization that is 100% about profit and power is a different ballgame. When people start to see that the religious leaders care more about dollar signs then what is right is when people (generally) leave all religion.

Does it count as profit when the priest is driving a $70,000 Mercedes? I've done a lot of work at various churches, and priests seem to like Mercedes, though at one church the head pastor drove a Bentley, it was a pretty sweet ride.

It's simple. Advanced life forms from "out" there, dropped by our little blue planet, and gave us rules to live by. A burning bush here, a miracle there, and a "saviour" who spread the word of love. Over time, the single message branched off to different versions. I am not talking about scienctology here.
