So I just watched a documentary about "the end of the world on 2012". I never really believed the hype but now that I watched this, I'm not so sure. I mean, these are real people working for NASA and stuff talking about Solar Flares killing the power grid and stuff. Who else believes this? Who doesn't? Why?

Ok, what isn't going to happen on this day, seriously? It's a load of crap. People love to blow stuff like this out of proportion on the internet because they have nothing else better to do.

I only believe the Solar Flare myth.
Which is basically saying that the next solar flare cycle (2012) will be so strong that it will destroy all of our satellites. Which means no communications for a while until we send more satellites back up. Wont hurt anyone...unless you MUST have your cell phone, internet, or TV. [read]

In James Randi's first book, there is a section on Doomsday people. It is amazing to see A) the sheer amount of them and B) how their followers are disappoint when the earth does not end. Like P.T. Barnum said "There is a sucker born every minute."

I heard of this date about 10 years ago on a History Channel show. I never heard a thing about it then until the trailer came out for the movie this past summer. It really got everyone wound up. Hollywood really capitalized on this one... Frank
Okay nobody's really saying they believe this stuff...Just asking opinions. Do I think it'll end. NO. I think it's relatively humorous for one to think the world is to end because of the prophecies of an ancient culture that weren't even PROPHECIES OR INCLINATIONS!

Exactly. I don't think the end of the world is near (although it is "fun" to talk about and debate). I think, if ANYTHING, will happen it will just be a major event whether people die or not. You know, maybe they did predict something will happen on that date. But hell, it could even be as simple as a meteor shower. And out of all the theories out there, the Solar Flare theory is the only one that is backed up with facts and actually makes sense.
