I didn't read the book but was dragged into seeing it with my girlfriend.
Frankly the movie wasn't all that impressive. The majority of the effects were down right awful, and according to my girlfriend, they added a bunch of descriptive stuff that wasn't in the book, and essentially ruined the imagination of any reader. And let me tell you, she is IN LOVE with these books.
Frankly it's just another Harry Potter phase and wont last long. These books have been out for awhile as well, so it kind of just proves that the only thing that sparked interest in these damn things was the fact that there was a movie behind it, and every teenage girl in america had to feel better than everyone else so they can say how much better the book was.
Yeah but at least Harry Potter is GOOD. Or at very least has well rounded characters with more than lust on their mind. It's just a trashy romance novel in disguise. I worked the premiere of Twilight and out of 300 people, there were 15 guys. Who were boyfriends or dads. At least Harry Potter has a much bigger demographic.
Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking, isn't thinking of.
The whole vampire thing inspired by this movie is really trendy/retarded and is one of those things will be featured in "I love the 2000's" on VH1 being one of those what the hell were people thinking things.
...and Dee Snyder will be featured in it at age 70 and be like "Yeah I was all for that, Vampires man, woo!"
yamaha, where are you getting your info? There's been no confirmation that Taylor Lautner has been replaced. If there had been, then it would be all over the Lexicon and Stephenie Meyer and/or Summit Entertainment would have definitely said something by now.
Can we try to keep this topic a non-bashing topic, please? There are so many fricken sites that bash the books and the movies and stuff and it's extremely annoying. I don't go bashing Battlestar Galatica and more male oriented things.
As for the interest of this only being sparked by the movie, that is the furthest thing from the truth. I know many, many people who have been into this series since the first book came out, and they could care less about the movie. I went to the book party for the fourth book that came out in august, and there was easily about 150 people there. In one day the book sold 1.8 million copies. Yeah, it's just a movie thing.....
Also, as far as the movie goes, yes, it was different. It really depends on who you're talking to though. For instance, Joe's girlfriend evidently didn't like it. I personally loved it, and I loved the books too. It was an adaptation, and I think it was well done with the crappy budget that Summit gave them to do it. Yes, other things were added that weren't in the book, and there were things in the book that should have been in the movie, but you're taking a 500+ page book and turning it into a 2 hour movie. Sure, stuff is going to get cut. It's been that way with HP. The movie has taken in over 213 million dollars worldwide. I don't think this thing is just a "fad."

I still wouldn't trust the people over on those boards. Many of the people that I've seen over there are middle aged men who have bashed the series to no end. If there was going to be a major casting change, it would be a really big deal, just like the Catherine Hardwicke dismissal. Summit Entertainment would definitely issue a statement, and I'm sure that Chris Weitz and/or Stephenie Meyer would too, mostly to try to ease tensions between the fans who are sure that if they do replace Taylor Lautner, that all hell will break loose.
I read the first two books, and I must admit they're very entertaining in the way that they're so bad they're good...I never saw the movie because I figured the books were about as much as I could handle

WTH is up with her going to Italy in the second book? I mean come on it's based in high school!
I'm on the fence about the whole re-casting. The issue that has come about is the radical transformation that comes about in Jacob (don't know if some people haven't read the whole thing, but I think people know why.) From what I gathered while reading the novels, Jacob goes from being maybe 5'10 ish to 6'7. They describe him from looking like a 16 year old to looking like a 25 year old. I don't know about you ladies and gents, but to me, Taylor Lautner doesn't look like he could pull off someone who could look to be 25. I mean, the way this transformation is done in the book, he's described as being HUGE! I'm just a little bit worried about it. I know that Lautner met with Chris Weitz before the holidays hopefully in an effort to work this out so that he can play the role. I liked Lautner as Jacob, and from what I've heard, he's gained 17 pounds of muscle for the role so far, but I'm worried that no matter how much he works out, it's not going to be enough.
^ I forgot about that part...As much as I dislike Jacob, I liked Taylor. But hey, they already made Twilight so different, why not mess up New Moon as well?
There isn't really a battle in New Moon. A suspensful ending, yes, but a battle, no.
My main concern is the budget for this movie. Summit Entertainment doesn't really plan on giving much of a bigger budget, which I really think is a mistake. In book two you have the werewolves and Italy. I don't have much of a problem with Weitz as the director. I mean, in my opinion, the Harry Potter movies have gotten better since the directors have changed. Then again though, I really don't care so much if a movie follows the book exactly. The Jacob stuff is a bit of a concern, but after seeing some of the special effects in Twilight, i'm a little worried about werewolves.
I have confidence that it'll be good though. I went into Twilight with so-so expectations, and I liked it a lot. I just hope they try to keep it like the book. Doesn't have to be exact, but a thought of mine is for the studio not to give Rob Pattz a bigger part for book two. It's not really necessary.
Just saw the movie on New Years Day. I loved it, personally. Then again, I didn't read the book. A few months ago, I tried to read it, but only got to page 7, and was really too busy to read it again. I may try readng it this week.
