^I dont think he was trying to be funny. Its true, they shouldnt worry abou this kind of thing this seriously. THey should be more concerened with phelonies not misdemeanors.

Win the case, file a lawsuit and you'll have no problem paying for one.

1. She didn't break the law, she's innocient. Read, understand, then post. Thanks.
2. Certain laws outweight other laws. I doubt a jaywalker is a big of a danger as a drunk driver is. Felony > Misdemeanor in my book.

DejaVuGurl, whatever you do, don't let this ruin your day! It may seem like a big deal now (trust me, i've been there NUMEROUS times) but you'll laugh bout it later on. I remember the first time i ran into the law, they are very intimidating, very authoritative, and they jump the gun rather soon before they think things through (hell, i had a cop ask my little brother questions about me like if i was good in school and if i was mean and such to see what he could gather bout me)! Unless they have evidence (which they wouldn't if you didn't do anything), they are the ones in trouble here. Let them do all the work, they have to prove you did it, you don't have to do anything. Be cooperative, be understanding (even when it makes no sense) and the judge will see right through their bull! For now, I would try and move on with your life, things happen, people make mistakes, and cops are no exception to that. Go out, have a nice soda, grab a pizza, and chill with some close friends or the boyfriend and take your mind off things! So yeah, that's my Mr. Rodgers "Feel good" speech for ya, and next time, come out to New Lenox...we're nicer

After taking a Law class here at NU, you learn about the corruption in the police force and how things like this happen. You have the right as a citizen to a fair and equal trial as well as an attorney, and when the defendant is unable to pay for one, the state has to provide an attorney, but they will work less with you than other attorneys. Also, there are some things that they are allowed to search without warrants, but Im not sure about personal items as cell phones. Also, if Walgreens does admit they are wrong and pursue you with some apology and some cash not to sue, sometimes its better to take that as you wont have to pay for court fees and attorneys. In this case, it doesn't seem as if they were wrong, you wouldn't get a significantly large sum of money from suing them, but with the police, that could be taken to court. However, that I forget how they usually end up, I learned it, but I really dont remember at all. But as they have no evidence against you besides an empty case, they will have extreme difficulty winning, they will need more evidence, eye-witness accounts and video. There is one thing bad about going against them, they are "Repeat Players" and they have experience in the courtroom and have attorneys that know the judges, and you being a "One Shot" player. So I hope everything goes good, and gets situated to the truth and the justice system doesnt mess up again.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
My dad just spoke with a sergeant on the phone a few minutes ago. He wanted to make an appointment with the chief but this guy just wanted to deal with it over the phone. He's a lying sack of **** too. He's saying that the cop viewed the tape and saw me putting items in my purse.
I'll say this. I didn't even touch my purse when I was in the store. It was on my shoulder the whole time, untouched. It was practically nonexistant to me.
And this whole barcode thing is crap. "They were all Walgreens products." "They matched this Walgreen's barcodes." If I bought any of them at Walgreens it was most likely only a few of them, 3 at the most. They're also saying some of tem were not used. They sure as hell were used, I know I used every single one of them before. Some of them just may not have been used enough to be determined as used.
My dad wants an attorney. We really can't afford it but it seems like we may need one. He's gonna go and see the chief on Monday, or try to anyway.
What the hell is a Walgreen's bar code? (inserts random knowledge of bar code systems)
Bar codes are set by the company who manufacturers the product. Pillsbury's first digits use to be 18000-xxxxx but then they changed it to 515000-xxxxx and screwed up the whole system.
Walgreen's may have there own bar codes for there own products and for markdown items but those would have to be stickered on top of there own products.
A good example is i bought a candy bar where I worked then went to another store. Still rang up over there because it is a UNIVERSAL product code.
I don't understand how they matched a "certain location's" bar codes either. Once again, they are universal product codes, they are in now way indigenous to one locale.
Maybe buy the cops a box of krispie cremes? (I'm a criminal justice major, I can say that)
^So are you suggesting that walgreens check their barcodes (if they have them) and see if they have dejavu girls items marked as "purchased" or "un-purchased"? Excelent idea. If they can do that, then shell be proven innocent.
Problem however. The cops think shes just some random teenager. They will never go trough the trouble of getting a warrent for that! And besides, walgreens wouldnt want to give that info up anyway. Good idea, but it might not happen.
I just figured something out. The cop told me that I stole 6 items, including the original missing product. It did not add up to the 8 lipsticks they took from me.
So I just realized that 3 of the lipsticks DID NOT have the barcodes on them.
But they took them from me anyway.
(So that leaves 5 leftover lipsticks, plus the original item.)
As far as I'm concerned, they can't just say that they viewed the tape.
I remember having to be there when they showed the tape of me supposedly breaking an arcade game.
Both of us saw nothing.
I think you should demand to see the tapes and see where that goes.
Yeah we're going to try and demand to see them maybe on Monday. My dad's gonna go try to talk to somebody for sure.
I forgot to mention, this 3 hour program I have to go to on Wednesday, is like a program to become a better citizen. Group discussions and I'm gonna be interviewed, and one of my parents has to be there.
I'm telling you there's gonna be nothing on that god damned video tape. We are going to see it, someway, somehow.
Don't let them push you around. Remember that until you're proven guilty, you're innocent. Like you said, to them you're just some random kid, and they're going to treat you like that. Again, get familiar with the Bill of Rights.
Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Amendment V No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Amendment VI In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.
Be assertive in defending your rights. Make noise. Demand they provide undeniable evidence of your guilt.
This couldn't be any more * up. I just got back from the courthouse.
My dad talked to the manager of Walgreens a little while ago before we went to the courthouse. He says he didn't see anything on the tapes and that the police are lying, and so he pretty much is sure that I didn't shoplift. He thinks me and my boyfriend were acting suspicious though, and he was surprised that I had so many lipsticks in my purse.
I would be at the courthouse right now, but... uh... We got there and no people were there to run it. Some guy said it was yesterday or the other day. The damn paper says Wednesday January 10th from 6-9 PM!
We haven't been informed of anything. They said if we would miss this thing that I'd go to court and get charged or whatnot. Have we been called? No.
ugh, sounds like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. This whole thing sounds really f**ked up. Those policemen are lying sacks of Sh*t, and hopefully this thing will just blow over in the end. I remember back a couple of years ago, something like this happened to my now ex-stepsister. They said she was stealing from Walmart, and there was nothing on the tapes when they went back to view them. Obviously the Walgreens sup. sees this now, and hopefully it will be dropped. I hope you don't get punished for not being at the thing today either. It's not your fault you followed instructions and the instructions are wrong. It's obvious that your innocent from what I've heard. Something just isn't adding up right.
Just got a call from whoever's in charge. The woman apologized and said that we were given the wrong date, and that it will be this Wednesday. My mom explained that I didn't take anything. She said if we have problems, that the states attorney will be there and we can talk to her about it.
I really don't want to go to this... I don't want to be in a room full of bad kids and have people thinking I'm one too, and have to sit there for 3 damn hours.
^Good luck with it! When i went to traffic school for my tickets, I was thinking the same thing, but i've found that most of the people in the class were in the same boat that I was in. So you will probably be surrounded by other kids like yourself that just had a little bad luck. You'll do fine!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
^Traffic school is different. People only attend so the offense they did doesn't go on their driving records. The class is also filled with people of all ages and backrounds.
I wouldn't call getting a speeding ticket as being a criminal.
DejaVugirl: If the manager of Walgreens didn't see anything on the tapes, then you shouldn't even have to attend this class or whatever they call it.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
So I hope you guys are going to turn it around on Walgreens and those cops and accuse them of not doing their jobs correctly. They obviously failed to follow precedure and were just in the mood to hassle. Bastards.
