Windshare is different to a microburst.

Back when they were first learning about microbursts. They used Windshare as a way to write off the mircoburst theory. But now we know them to be two seprate meterolgicial events.

Like areo stated the microburst may have been some distance away from the airport, but it was still strong enough to effect the plane. I belive that areo's theory is correct.

I find it ironic that the day of this crash was the 20th Anniversary of Delta Airlines Flight 191.

The Lockheed L-1011 Crashed during severe windshear at Dallas Ft. Worth. it is because of this crash, that airports across the country have installed windshear and microbust detection systems.

Microbursts, are usually associated with severe downdrafts from Severe Thunderstorms, they are very very quick winds that slam into the ground at nearly 100 mph.

Imagine for a second a bucket of water getting dumped on your head.... the water slams down and spreads out over a large area.

Now imagine if that water was wind, coming down at 100 mph, its so sudden that everything that was below it, was flattened.

Microbursts are sometimes confused with tornadoes, especially because mircobursts are just as destructive as Twisters, but unlike tornadoes which winds are in a circular motion, a microburst is straight line winds.
