Some people

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.
Postby SFaddiction84 on June 13th, 2006, 7:50 pm
First off, dont try to tell me that this is in the wrong spot or what not, this is an offtopic forum and im posting an OFF topic comment

Is making sure spelling and grammer, making sure things are in the right forums, or getting mad off and deleting peoples posts because they prove you wrong, ALL you have to worry about in life? Grow up! There are many other things in life worth worrying about then having a panic attack because someone posted in wrong form or one leTter was capitalized in a word!

This is a forum for Six Flags, HAVE FUN, stop living in a little box with tight and strict rules, live alittle

Now for the retaliation and deletion, if this post is deleted or negative comments are posted, you are proving you are close minded and nothing better to do with your time! Good Night and God Speed!

I will agree this forum is a little uptight. We seem to be reminded of the rules every second.

Though it's really not all that hard to capitalize stuff, especially when you have as much time as you need to type out a message. I'm not defending the mods, I'm just saying.

I, for one, am going to disagree, as I should and do have the right to do.
Sure, you should have fun. But if you really want to be a part of a sloppy, hard to read forum, go ahead and leave, don't make this one ugly. Anyone ever heard of "good clean fun"? That's the point of rules. Besides, there's dignity in a nice looking forum.

The only problem I've ever had with this forum in the many years I've been a part of it is how new people show up and completely change the atmosphere, usually negatively. I don't post often, and there's a reason for that.

I love the rules of this forum. I'm a part of a few other forums and I find that sigs and avatars and bad spelling and grammar, I mean really bad, not run on sentences like this one, can get in the way of being able to understand whats going on. The only thing I don't like is how the rules keep HAVING to be repeated...if people followed them we wouldn't have to worry about it, would we?
What you don't understand you can make mean anything.

Ok, first we do have things to do with our time we're not here 24/7. The reason why we ask of proper spelling and grammar is simple, if you don't use it your posts become very hard to read. We're trying to keep a semi-professional atmosphere going so that people are not intimidated or feel like they can't join in at any time.

As to removing posts anything that is a rumor which has no factual evidence is removed until factual evidence is found. I'd suspect that you're referring to the numerous Tornado threads that were deleted until the accident was confirmed. Until that was actually confirmed everything was just pure speculation. We want the truth to come out and for people to talk about the truth not about what they heard from the Lemon Chill guy. Even though he is quite the source for rumors, he's usually wrong.

Oh and there is a forum for this, Problems and Suggestions, but I'm not uptight I'll leave it right here in Off-Topic, if you think more people will read it thats fine.

The thing that I don't like about this forum is certain member's snooty attitudes. Just because you know a little science, or have the "inside scoop" of the park doesn't make you God's gift to this forum, so please, stop acting like you know everything.

That being said, I think there is nothing wrong with correcting other people as long as its tastefully done. (Minus the eye-roll)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I joined this forum because I like Great America. I like being able to talk about fun stuff and learn things about rollercoasters that I otherwise wouldn't know. Making new friends is fun too. But its really hard to do that when your posts keep getting deleted and people are being rude for no reason!

I guess what I'm trying to say is can't we all just get along?

I am going to complain about the proper spelling in that post.

Just kidding.

You people are over reacting if you are thinking that spelling and grammar rules are preventing you from having an opinion. Everyone can express themselves without AIM talk..

If you think people are being rude then use the Report Post feature. I don't see people's opinions being harassed around here. Granted if you start to bring up rumors then you will, but that is clearly stated in the forum rules that we don't allow rumors here as well as in many forum stickies.

When people point out that you are in the wrong forum, they aren’t trying to be snotty about it, I think they are just trying to help. Granted posting a reply saying "wrong forum" is not very productive, it's not meant to be an attack. Eventually a moderator will get to the topic and move it. Also, there are two big groups of members here, the group who have been around 3+ years and the new crowd that joins every season. The new people will often start new topics that are either 1. pointless 2. already been asked and answered, or 3. Against the rules. The older members realize that these posts are in the wrong and will often call people out on it. We've tried to push the "Report Post" feature as to prevent some of the forum trolling. A lot of this can be prevented by using the search feature.

Personally I think Ragingbullfan summed it up perfectly, Tornado topics were deleted because they were Speculation. It was all "I saw" or "my friend's grandma's taxi driver saw".. There was no official news announcement. You've all seen this before. We don't allow rumors about future rides unless confirmed somehow. Every time something like this happens at the park we do the same thing. It happened with the Wave pool incident, the Ragin Cajun Incident, and the Raging Bull accident.

Any other concerns?

Obviously it wouldn't be right, but if the users with more seniority don't like new people coming in, why not make it a private board?

Not serious BTW.

And does it really kill you to make a post that is readable? I don't know about you guys, but I get headaches trying to read some people's posts around here. I don't think it's asking that much to maybe read over your post one time before you click Submit.

Or am I asking too much?

It's not a problem with Senior users not liking old users. It's a fact that new users are ignoring the Plentiful numbers of Stickies and not reading the rules when they sign up.

Also, I believe that most users are taking it way too personally when a topic gets locked or deleted. We don't profile users when we delete. If something is breaking the rules, we delete it regardless of who makes it.

You are DEFINITELY correct on this one! Seeing that we all are over or around the age of 13, typing something that people can at least read and understand should not be a problem. Mispelling words happen all the time and if it's an honest mistake, most of the time people can still understand you and people won't complain or delete your post. Posters are only yelled at for posting completely mispelled and unreadable posts so i don't see the problem here at all.

Also, to those who have problems with the rules being inforced, i would please appreciate it if you could answer some questions for me...

What is so offensive about taking your topic that you started and putting it in a different, but equally viewed spot on the same website?

What is so wrong about deleting a post when you are informed why it was deleted? You could always just type your opinion again in an appropriate fashion without problems if you are that serious about what you posted.

Oh, and what are other reasons for having a problem with the rules or complaining about this site being critical on this site other than the spelling and wrong topic complaints? Cause i can't think of anything valid to complain about.

Finally, i have yet to find anyone who is being snotty because they think they know more than the average poster here so what are you talking about whoever made that comment?

Also keep in mind that i am a rather new member to this site and am not a mod or anything so this is what just an average poster thinks.

Rather new, with over 1000 posts? If this were high school, I'd put you in the sophomore category, not a freshie or a newbie.

When it comes to profiling and deleting posts and topics, I've had topics deleted before, I've had topics locked before. Things that have been discussed, things that were written poorly, things that aren't relevant, usually things that have already been discussed, well, they don't need another topic so they get the boot.

I'm not a very argumentative person, I try not to post things against other people unless I have something nicely thought out to say, but sometimes, a thread gets to be too much (like the DDR thread is starting to get to, but it seems to be dying down), and they'll boot that too.

If you ask a mod why something was deleted, they will tell you. Its not like things weren't done for a reason. If you seriously have a problem (instead of posting an angry thread about it) you could just talk to a mod about it, they can help you figure out what you can do to get your topics and posts back on track.
What you don't understand you can make mean anything.

The main reason I replied to this topic is because whether someone is new on this forum or not, they should get the same respect as anyone else on here.

The thing that got to me about my post(s) being deleted was that they were being deleted and nobody emailed me about it until I asked first. So as you can imagine, that got a little irritating. I haven't been a kid for a while now, so it was weird that my thoughts were being censored and I was being told what to do.

Either way, I emailed a mod about it and things have been worked out.

But in places like this if your post is completely unreadable and has no respect for the highly enforced TOS then many people 1. Probably won't read your whole post and 2. Won't respect your opinion as much.

Sorry, that's how it is.

I don't understand how any of my posts were unreadable...? I got an A in English back in H.S.

If any of my posts were deleted because they violated TOS, that's purely subjective to whoever chooses to delete them!

i guess i'm the only one, but i think mostly all the people are treated equally here. I agree with Aero when he said that the search feature for the topics is helpful. I hate looking on this page and seenig four topics about the exact same thing, it's kinda dumb if you can't look first. With the grammar, i agree with those who think we need good grammar in here. if you can't write good grammar, then people aren't going to read your posts, and then you've wasted your time. While i get annoyed by dumb posts, i understand that we were all like this at one point in time, so i won't go out and talk rudely about those posts. All i can say is look before you do, and make your posts readable, it's really not that hard to do.

I agree with you 100%. It can't be that hard to take the time to type a correct grammer post.
Just because you can't use IM talk doesn't mean you can't express your opinion. It just means that you have to take an extra 15 to 30 seconds to type it out.
