It has nothing to do with being a hippie or not! I myself recycle EVERYTHING that I possibly can but that doesn't make me a hippie. Then again I was born on Earth Day so maybe I was just born with a good heart to help save the environment that is in need of so much help. I actually work for Waste Management and to see how fast we are filling up these landfills are disgusting! If more people recycled we wouldn't have to keeping taking the little amount of land that we have left away from wildlife to make room for trash. Plus recycling is so easy to do!
I recycle. I do not recycle because it saves the enviornment, or it'll be a newspaper I read someday, nor for the 10cent refund I get by driving 5 minutes north of the border, but because it is easy and it makes the hippies happy which is hard to do.
^I'm confused. Earth Day seems so fake. I say this because everyone gets in their car, and pollutes everywhere or they go on the bus which pollutes. Is everyone really not going to drive that day? Exercise blah, people love their cars, trucks, and what not. Planting more trees is good, so we can breathe better.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
I look at Earth Day as being a day of information. On Earth Day anyone can find allot of information on web pages about what they can do to help the environment without having to actually do searches. I noticed that more this year... Yahoo, MSN, CNN... all of them had information on their homepages.
I understand what you are saying about the cars... I feel the same way but unfortantually I am guilty as well. I work 45 minutes away so I need to get in my car and drive to work everyday. What really bothers me is when I am at a place (such as Six Flags) and I see people of all ages 14, 21, 35, 60 it doesn't matter... littering. Come on people there are trash cans everywhere but this nation has become so lazy that just throwing the trash on the ground is "easier" for them. Like I said I defnitley do not consider myself a hippie but I do what I can to help out as much as possible. I said it before and I'll say it again... it's easy and it defnitley makes me feel better. Any little change that even 1 person does makes a BIG difference.
ugh...I don't like people littering, but only because I'm thinking of the guys who have to clean it up. why make their jobs any harder? just hang on to your trash a little longer and throw it in a trash can. nobody likes picking garbage up off the ground so why make someone else's life harder?
as for driving, yeah, I don't think its so great that my car has to polute so much. as soon as I can count on a hybrid car starting up during the winter, I'm getting it. I also can't wait for hydrogen fuel cells.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.
it doesn't mean there would be no jobs. people still need to get the trash from the garbage can to the dump. I just believe in making their jobs and lives easier by making it convient for them to do their job. what if the people at your job dropped the papers you need to do your job somewhere on the ground in the hall between you. you could still walk over, pick them up, and get your job done, but it'd be a pain and you'd want to smack the jerk who could have walked a little farther with the papers and bright them right where you need them.

Yeah, I was referring more to janitors/custodians, that they'd be "jobless" if they didn't have to clean up after us. It's like, grow up, big babies, and clean up after yourself!
