I'm an atheist. I was raised Catholic. A few years ago, my belief in God got stronger, and I became more and more religious. Can't really remember why, but it did. I read the Bible and prayed every day. Then one day, something about it just stopped feeling right. Eventually, my entire belief in God simply collapsed upon itself. I know that's kinda vague, but that's basically what happened. I became agnostic for a while, and eventually the atheist that I am today.
If I had to pick a religion that I most identify with, it'd probably be LaVeyan Satanism. Yeah, I know you're thinking "omg satinist!!!", but LaVeyan really has nothing to do with worshipping Satan in the Christian sense. If you're not familiar with it, the following pages sum it up nicely: 1, 2, 3. Or if you want a quicker summary, "Do unto others as they do unto you."
I haven't really come out of the atheist closet to my family yet (actually, there's quite a few closets I haven't come out of, but that's another topic
). I really don't feel they need to know. All it'd do is create unnecessary conflict between us, and I'd rather not go through that.
I think it's kinda sad that the words "atheist" and "satanist" are used almost as insults nowadays. Oh well. Input's definitely welcome.
