My Thoughts on The New Six Flags CEO

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.
Postby Aero737 on February 1st, 2006, 1:37 pm
Well, Six Flags new CEO hasn't interisted me one bit until now. I just was reading through a couple of news articles and I've formatted my response.

Now, This is MY response, and mine only.

---

Who cares about the future of Six Flags, I want rollercoasters. I doubt I will visit the park beyond this next upcoming year, if even that. I don't care about families, I don't care about shows, I just go to six flags to ride the rollercoasters. Why take the IMAX out, It's great, Put your stupid 4d show somewhere else. Families, all they do is clog up lines... I can say this because I don't care about six flag's future, because I HIGHLY doubt I will go past this next year. Even then, Six Flags might die, but Great America will be picked up by another company. If I want shows, theming, and stupid charactors, I will go to disney. I say all this from a 20 year old thrill seeker, I'm not a coaster enthusiast, in fact, I rarely, if ever (occaisionally when I visit this site) Care to think about rollercoasters. I like being thrilled by the biggest and baddest things, I want to jump out of an airplane, I like driving fast...I dont want to go spend my afternoon watching bugs bunny hug smelly little kids. I know where six flags is going with their recent moves (hell, I went a season without spending 1 dime in Six Flags outside my Season Pass and Parking Pass), and they need money, but I don't care about their future, It's all about me.

-----

No that is just my reaction, I typed as I thought it out, so grammar and spelling will be iffy. This is my opinion, who I am, what I honestly think. I feel that I've grown out of rollercoasters, I might only have 1 season left in me, and even then, I only care about the rollercoasters.

I just thought I would say this, and post it in the off topic forum so I don't get jumped by everyone.

Um, I like Great America having the Six Flags title, it fits well and, I don't think the name should change....

Well Aero you stated your mind, and I respect that, but, you have made the point yourself as to why Six Flags is in such debt. Build nothing but thrill seeking attractions that cater to only people like yourself, and it pushes away the main stream of money that comes into the park, and that is families. You stated that you don't spend a dime in the park when you go to the park, where as say a family of four like mine, will spend upwards to $50-$60 if not more with every visit. Without that money, improvements to the park, and bigger newer thrill rides, will be few and far between. My daughter loves going to the park. There is plenty for her to do, and she is NOT smelly. It is an experiance that is priceless. Now when she gets older, I am sure that she will bring her children to Great America, and the same goes for my son who is also NOT smelly. Who do think Six Flags is aiming more to: A person like Aero who does not spend a dime in the park, and wants to jump out of a plane hopeing that his parachute opens, or to a family who is likely spend a load of money inside the park, and help get those new thrill rides.
Generation after generation will hopefully continue to visit the park we all love, but with nothing but thrill rides, and attractions that only cater to a certain height limit, families will go elsewhere, and spend their hard earned money at another park instead of ours. Why do you think Disney, and PKI have some of the highest attendence records each year. It's not hard to figure out. Its a sign of things to come, and there is nothing that we can do about it, except thank the man above that our park is going to continue to operate, and grow.
So, it comes down to this. When my wife is off with my two smelly kids hugging, and enjoying Bugs, Daffy, and spending money on games, food, and other crap, there will be one less person that I will have to wait behind in line for any of coasters.

I know, I really don't care about Six Flag's future anymore, Maybe two years ago when I still was really into rollercoasters I would, but not anymore.

Oh, and Please don't take the fact that I said "Smelly" kids as an attack against your kids, I'm sure they arn't smelly, I just strongly dislike children.

And I know that Six Flags no longer caters to people like me, It's good for them as a company, If I cared about the longevity of Six Flags Inc, I would be for these changes, but It's gotten to the point where I don't. Six Flags could cease to be tommrow and I wouldn't shed a tear, nor would it bother me.

I guess that's just how I am, things that don't interist me mean very little to me.

So I take it then you could care less about Great America, and wouldn't care if it closes down for good tomorrow? Not trying to be sarcastic, just curious thats all.

Honestly, I wouldn't care if it shut down. I wen't twice last year, both only 1/2 days, both only because I was invited to Special events. I will probably only go once this year if even.

I can definitely understand if one usually does something on a routine basis, one can easily get bored or lose interest. Aero, I understand where your coming from. Maybe you have found other activities of greater interest than roller coasters. Life is about experience new things and going outside the norm.

Personally, I like the whole theme park experience, not just the coasters. Aero's right, why would you like the new CEO if all you care about is coasters? Why should we care about the company's financial status (unless you own stock). The only people that should be concerned are Snyder and Shapiro and the other uppers. Some people obsess over stuff like that too much, like don't make that your life for crying out loud! (If you do, becoming a financial advisor may be right up your alley.)

I havn't posted in a REALLY long time, but I have to give my opinion
on what Aero has said.

I'm a coaster lover. I love the thrill and I love the drive, but, I do
care about the company. Am I disappointed about not having a new
coaster at GAm for 3-4 years? Yes, but I understand why.

We cannot have a new coaster, if there is no money to build one.
Don't be selfish and whine and cry about Six Flags shifting gears.
You only account for under 1% of people and it's not about you. It's
about what is best for the company.

If all you want is for them to continue into debt, just to build coasters,
this company will die and soon you won't have any coasters to go on.

Stop whining and crying and just do what we can only do. Wait it out and
see what happens. This is all for the betterment of the company.

Hey, if you don't care about Six Flags, don't get a season pass this year.
Why invest in something you don't care about?

Six Flags doesn't need you at all. It's ungrateful people like you that
hurt this park.

A note for all of you who don't care about Six Flags' future....
Don't come to the park. Leave!! The park will be better without you!

I'm going to have to disagree with you here James...

I'd be 99% of the people that visit the park really do not care what happens to it. If they did we wouldn't have grafitti everywhere or people destroying park property.

Its the people that "don't care" that will go to the park once and because they don't know any better, spend all their money at the park rather than going down the street to save $10 per person for lunch.

You say the park will be better without these people, Yes it will be "better", there will be nobody there, and with the 10-20 people that would come who really cared, there is no way to sustain a park off of them.

Like it or not, most people wouldn't care if Great America were to close today, there are many other locations they can spend their hard earned money. Sure it might not be the same type of entertainment, but its not like SFGAm is the only thing to do.

True, but, I think what he meant by his comment is that if you come to the park and don't spend any money, its not doing GA any good. The park thrives on money spent within the park.
