Operators of government-owned aquatic complexes in Lake County are voicing confidence in their facilities in the face of looming competition from Six Flags Great America in Gurnee.
Great America plans to build a water park on its property just east of the Tri-State Tollway and Grand Avenue, according to Gurnee officials. The facility might include water slides, a wave pool and concession stands.
However, those running the government-owned aquatic centers in such places as Gurnee, Grayslake and Vernon Hills say they don't expect Great America to swipe visitors from their businesses.
