Sometime can we use our own avatars instead of the ones in the gallery?

On other forums they let us pick whatever we want.

A Lot of other forums aren't as great as this one. I'd like to choose my own avatar too but Dave makes great avatars and you have a huge selection to pick from.

Avatars oftentimes get sloppy and when they're all the same size it makes the site more uniform and sleek. This also helps keep the site more relevant to SFGam because when guests surf the forums they're lest apt to get distracted by someone's avatar because they're all sfgam related.

The main reason for not allowing off site avatars is copyright. We can get in trouble if someone's offsite avatar is a copyrighted image and someone calls us on it. Since we cannot check what would be everyone's own avatar its better to prevent it from happening.

What about using that feature where you have to get an uploaded avatar approved by a mod or admin or something?

Like Kyle said. Too much work. This is much easier. Being a mod takes time and work, you know. Not all fun and games.

Dave had a bad experience using someone elses Avatar (a former Moderator) on this site and since then he will just use his that he makes.

In my opinion keeping the avatars uniform and fairly consistant makes the forum look cleaner.

It would be cool if we visited sfgam and took some good pictures, if we could email them to dave and if he liked them, then he would post them for everyone to be able to use.
