Passing on a season pass 2009 -- Who else?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby RemoveShapiro,NotVu on Mon Sep 08, 2008 3:22 pm
With the park in a slow, steady state of decline I'm wondering how many of the die-hards that visit this board might not get a season pass next year.

And, if you are getting a pass, how many years with no new substantive attraction would it require for you to change your mind?

I still plan on getting a season pass next year. Just because they're not adding any huge attractions, it won't make me not want to go. I still love the park, and it would take a lot to stop me from going.

I'm getting one, I don't drive to the park so the parking isn't an issue for me. It's the food that is the real killer in my budget. So no im not passing
SF trips 08 = 8
SF trips 09 = First trip will probably be 5/9/09 or 5/16/09 depending when I get out of school.

I've been questioning if I should get a pass for 09 for awhile now. With Hurricane Harbor Separate Admission, Splash Battle instead of a Dive Machine and The Last big attraction in 2003. I only went about 5 times so far this year if that.

Maybe one trip next year...nothing to get excited about. This year I wanted to check out the old Deja Vu/SwplashWater Falls site and ride Dark Knight. I still think we will get a dive machine in either 2010 or 2011.

I'm still going to get one. Just because we don't get a huge new coaster won't stop me from getting a season pass. I'm excited to hear what the other new attraction will be, possible expansion to HH... hoping for something like Deluge! And still hoping that DV's place will not be a splash battle, but if it is, whatever...

I will get one, just because we don't get something new the park changes from year to year, new staff, new shows, NEW SLOGAN (thank god), and I still love the coasters that we have, even if I have ridden them 50+ times.

I got one this year and still haven't gone

the gas was just so high and i didn't get to go with the band this year because i wasn't informed when the trip was (I'm on the football team so i was exempt from marching band and the marching band was organizing the trip. and me, not being in marching band had no idea about it)

and with football every day of the week with games on friday nights and some saturdays there is a slim chance of me going to fright fest

waste of $80 :x

I will not be getting one because

1. I do not get to go to the park enough in a season.

2.Gas Prices have kept me away from the park.

3.I live to far away.

Oh yeah, let's just stop attending our home park because we're not getting a dive coaster for 09. The park is definitely declining.

Get real. A loyal fan would NOT question if they're getting a season pass for the next season, no matter what the park has changed/added/removed/ect. Until that park has been closed, torn down and scrapped, I will be buying a pass for each and every season. Case closed.

^ Why wouldn't a loyal fan question if they were getting a season pass? What if they don't buy a season pass because they can't afford it, does that not make them a loyal fan? I am a loyal fan and I am not getting one because I only go a few times a year but I am still loyal to the park! I don't think anyone is going to stop attending the park because we are not getting a dive machine either!

^First off, I meant the people that attend the park numerous times a year, and have been season pass holders for years, not just a few times.

And yes, there are people here who are getting all bent out of shape because we're not getting a coaster next year.

I will get a season pass because I love roller coasters and there arent any other options in the area. The park has been going downhill and this season was no different and none of the rumors make me hopeful for next year.

But I still love RB/BTR/Ae/Viper etc so I will go and enjoy my favorite rides, and get my money from my seaspon pass and spend as little money as possible in the park. Sadly there is no competition in the area to force the park to do a better job than it does.

I for one will still without question get a Six Flags Season Pass, though as usual not from SFGAm, will wait for SFStL to offer next years pass, and buy it as an out of market pass, and hopefully they do the "parking renewal", I got this years season pass for under $60 with parking. At that price, I cant not get one, and I get to ride Evel Knieval to boot. Plus the freak show during fright fest alone makes it entirely worth every cent I spend on the season pass. I've gone twice so far this year, then used my SF pass at SFGAdv once, still paid off easily and then some.

^ I don't agree with you often Bob, but on that point I do. Its a shame that the park has no competition because if the park tried to outdo a competitor it could be a truly great park instead of just a good park.

^There really are! I can't stand when people B***ch and moan about not getting new coasters every year!! As for me, i haven't decided yet.

I have always gone every year, and I would still attend next year no matter what the new addition is, if any. But as of this year, I've finally had it with the way things are done at our park! Seriously, I know the company is out to make money, but there is a fine line that must be drawn and not crossed when it comes to getting that money. I used to walk into the park, yeah it was expensive, but I always enjoyed myself and felt the price was accurate. Now, I feel going to Six Flags is becoming a similar experience to buying a new car. I feel like i'm being pryed left and right to shell out doe, i feel that for every one element of theming, there are two elements of advertising, and I feel that the point of going to an amusement park for "the experience" is no longer applicable to our park. Some here might think i'm overreacting, and i'm DEFINITELY not saying that everything that has been done to our park in the past couple of years was terrible. I'm actually quite fond of the newest additions (Dark Knight and Wiggles) and the new efforts of becoming a more well rounded park. I also understand completely that our park and our economy is in a recession stage, but there are some policies and money hounding experiences that are just becoming too overwhelming for me. I went three times this year, and I honestly can't say that i've enjoyed the experience. I used to be able to sit in Hometown Square and eat my ice cream and listen to the sounds around me, now i can't afford the ice cream, can't notice the sounds over the advertisements, and I can't feel immersed in the scenery since it has all gone to the wayside for shoddy product placing. I'm sorry, Six Flags, but for the first time in 12 years, I find myself contemplating whether or not it's even worth getting a season pass.

I'm not sure about next year yet. Because of going away to college, and having a job, it's been more difficult for me to go. This year I've only been to the park three times. I don't even know if I'll make it to Fright Fest. the few times I was there, things just didn't feel the same to me.

I'm not just some person who has only had a season pass for a year. I've been a passholder since 2003. It just didn't feel the same as it always did, and because of that, it made me not want to go to the park as much this year. It's not because we're not getting a new rollercoaster next year either. We got one last year, why should we get one next year? Yeah, it was a family coaster, but that's what Shapiro has been working on.

It's also hard when I'm paying for this out of my own pocket, and I'm barely going. I mostly have to save up for six months to be able to afford the thing. Why do that if I won't be able to get the park as much, especially since I might be living in Chicago all year next year.

I have gone to the park 24 times this year, and will probably go at least 10 more before the season is over. Will I get a season pass in 2009? The answer to that question for me is another question: "When do the 2009 passes go on sale?" :D

Unless the park has the same fate that Six Flags Astroworld in Texas had, I plan on buying a season pass (and parking pass) for the next 60 years. Sure, I will be 95 years old then, but that does not matter.

I'm on the same page as FRD714. As long as the park is open in 2xxx, I will be getting a season pass and parking pass, and going as many times as I can.

Note: I put 2xxx, and not 20xx, as I am hoping that the park will be around in 2100 and beyond! :)

Ive spent so much time there over the past decade (being a guest and working there) that theres nothing I havent seen, thousands of times, so ill probably be enjoying other parks in 09. Has nothing to do with no big new ride or anything but to me 09 will be a "other parks" year...

Yep, I agree, the park is going right down the crapper. ....and another... , and another one.......

I started going to the park long before most of the members here were a twinkle in their daddy's eye. I have seen the best, and have seen the worse. I have been on every single roller coaster built at Great America. Been to the park every year that they have been in operation, and have seen them change hands, what, 5-6 times. My Mom took me to the park when I was a kid, just as I am starting a new generation with bringing my kids to the park, and hopefully my grandkids can experience it as well. My family and I will always have a season pass. I hold 32 years of memories of that damn park, and I don't think I can ever say that I will not renew my season pass, or not go to the park because of no new roller coaster, or I have to look at that Gieco sign and read, "Excuse me, but did you know.....", while I am standing there taking a leak.

This crap of, "were not getting a new coaster, just another stupid family ride" is old, and tiring. Let's not forget one of the reasons why we have to have these advertisements all over the place. We have them everywhere because the old regime of half-whitted morons thought it would give what most of you wanted; a new rollercoaster every-other year. While that was great for thrill-seekers, it did little to draw in the money makers. Families like mine. I don't recall to many people complain, and moaning during the Burkhe years when a family ride in Sky-whirl was taken out in place of a coaster with a reputation of breaking down as much as TTD. Now that the piece of crap is gone, and the possibility of a family ride taking it's place, everybody is up in arms. :?

Is Great America perfect. No. There was a time during the Marriot years that it was close to being perfect, but times change. Is there an amusement park that is. Maybe, and don't say Cedar Point cause I go through a laundry list of things wrong with that park.

Since you are not getting a season pass, you probably will be the first one to complain about ticket, and parking prices.

I'm still going to get one for the other Six Flags parks in the country. Although, my home park visits will decrease...my cross country trips will not...unless Six Flags will stop letting people get into other SF parks with there pass, and only give them a discount

Imagine going to...lets say SFMM or SFGAdv and still having to pay $20-$30 when you have your pass. That better NOT happen!

I was in the same boat, until I ended up renewing mine for $30 in Six Flags St. Louis, not to mention the $45 parking pass instead of $60...
