What if???

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby coasterfreak310 on Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:47 pm
What if Six Flags goes bankrupt in the next couple years, would another company buy it out and continue the amuesmunt parks or would they be done for good?

I don't think I could go a whole summer without Six Flags

There has been a lot of discussion about this lately.

I've come to the decision that a major chain may come and sweep up the parks that are doing good (i.e. SFMM,SFGAM, SFOG, and others)

But horrible parks (SFA, SFKK) Are gonna leave.
Just my predictions.

Filing bankruptcy does not mean that you shut your companies doors for good. It also depends on the chapter of bankruptcy that the company would take.

I assure you, that Great America is going nowhere anytime soon, and getting into the amusement park business again would be the last thing Marriot would want to do.

When an amusement park company goes bankrupt then all parks are sold seperatly. SO let's hope Universal buys SFGAm ;-)

If Universal bought SFGAm, the whole park would probably be DC comics...

Hey, Just back from my 2 day trip in Indiana. Anyway, I would want Either Herschend or PARC Management to buy the park and fix it up The Landscaping and lower pricing.

Don't be so hard on the guy with the Marriott's wish- for sentimental reasons (and great memories of how they ran the park), I would be thrilled with Marriott's owning the park again, too- but I know that's not going to happen. Even if it did, the chances are, the original people at Marriott's who were responsible for running both Great Americas are probably long since retired or dead (like WIllard "Willard's Whizzer" Marriott). As for Busch, I doubt they are looking to add another park to the chain, and if they did, they would probably prefer and design their own new, state of the art park from scratch rather than invest in a 32 year old park. Plus- with the buyout of the company from that European brewing co Inbev, it will be interesting how they view their amusement parks (if they came as part of the deal). I just made my first trip to Cedar Point last week, and after that experience, I hope Cedar Fair would buy Great America- I would love to be able to use my season pass at both parks!

That would never happen- Universal is all about state of the art, latest and greatest, and would want to design their own park from the ground up that can be open all year, not invest in an old park that's only open a few months each year. Plus- they would want to tie it in with their movie studios, and they are not going to build production studios in Gurnee, IL.

Busch would not be buying the parks. Currently, a company known as InBev is looking to buy Busch and has no interest in the amusement parks (they just want the brewing part).

Cedar Fair likely won't buy since they just acquired the former Paramount parks not too long ago and need to recover from that.

For some reason, I just don't see Universal or Disney buying. They seem to keep in the warm climates where parks can be operated all season. The location of SFGAm is great though since they'd have access to huge cities they currently don't reach. Even with that, it just doesn't seem like it would happen (unrelated: I said that about NHRA going to 1000 feet and that just happened).

I would say Parc Management, the city of Gurnee, or some currently small private organization will buy the park if it goes up for sale.
Luxornv on SFGAm Zone. I never got the registration email for that name here...

Amen to that, I actually started thinking about Gurnee buying Great America and that would be great!! Think About it:

- Gurnee would pull out all the stops and make the park great.
- Security would Skyrocket.
- The park would add bigger, taller attractions to get more visitors to go there.
- Admission might drop in addition to food and parking.
- Gurnee taxes would go down.

The city of Gurnee is one of the biggest barriers against building really tall structures, hell when they were building the park Marriott had to make an agreement with the city that no structure would ever be taller than Sky Trek Tower.
