What if...?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

We lost Whizzer in 2002 and kept Shockwave? Would Superman look better in Whizzer's place? I think so. While it does have history its so bland in color and does not stand out. Shockwave looked beautiful at the front of the park and the layout of SUF is not as impressive as I thought it would be. I think Six Flags made a big mistake. I heard Shockwave could have been repaired as it was less than 15 years old. Poor thing.

Its is great that SFGAM did make the right decision here and got rid of Shockwave rather than Whizzer!!!

While Shockwave was a good coaster, Whizzer is a classic and should remain as long as possible. As for SUF I dont think putting it where Whizzer is would make that big of a difference in the ride experience. My guess is that some of the trees would have been removed during the building process, and if SFGAM wanted trees to be part of SUF they could easily have planted trees to replicate the ones that are part of Whizzer's ride.

My grandpa helped build the whizzer, it's a family favorite. My family and I were so upset when we heard that it was going to be shut down. Luckly it didn't ! =] I believe that SFGAM made the right decision. SUF may not look the best at the front of the park, but I still think its a great ride. Keep in mind that Shockwave broke down all the time.

-this post was kinda pointless, but i just thought i would throw my opinion out there ;]

Still, Whizzer is quite old and requires a lot of upkeep. Shockwave was still pretty young and attracted more younger crowds. I think Whizzer will go in a few years at most. They should have torn down Whizzer and used its upkeep money to improve Shockwave for the new generation. Re-paint it and there ya go. The drop was amazing to see at the front of the park.

I loved Shockwave, but in terms of ridership, no one rode it. Even on the most crowded days it was never longer than a 20-30 minute wait most of the time.

I think most of the trees surrounding Whizzer would have been removed anyhow for construction/clearance purposes, so that area would have looked quite bare.

I remember when I went to Whizzer their was a sign saying "This is the last day the Whizzer will be open". I only go once a year so I was releived to see that it was still open the following year. I never got to ride Shockwave because the year I was tall enough Superman came in. I think that if they wanted trees and water like Whizzer they could have easily made it.

I hear what your saying. As I do myself feel Shockwave looked awesome pulling into the park, and on the skyline, and I think Superman would be amazing with the trees and water, I still think its a better decision for the General Public. Nobody rode Shockwave... I mean, they were originally going to put Superman in place of Whizzer, but too many people complained, and now, Supermans line is HUGE.

It really shows how stupid the GP can be, Superman isnt that great, and I think Shockwave was more thrilling and I do believe the roughness could have been solved with today and the futures technology and engineering, but SFGAM would not be the same without Whizzer. I LOVE that train sound it makes when its going around the turns! Its a classic!

I personally like the Whizzer, and don't want it to go. But, I believe Superman would be an entirely different ride in Whizzer's spot. A flight through the trees would be insanely fun.

I would be upset if Whizzer went. I remember as well going to the park the day it had that sign it was going down, I was so upset but I'm glad it's still there because it was my very first roller coaster and only coaster I could go on at the age of 9 because I was so short at nine I couldn't go on the other coasters that were there during that year. So if it does go I will be totally upset. I didn't care for Shockwave because I remember riding it 2 years before it closed and it gave me a major headache and I'm glad it's gone.
SF trips 08 = 8
SF trips 09 = First trip will probably be 5/9/09 or 5/16/09 depending when I get out of school.
