Credits

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby JordanSDMF on Wed Nov 12, 2008 2:12 am
When people mention credits, I know what they are. 1 credit = 1 roller coaster if I am right.

Now will someone explain to mevwhy this is going on, how people are keeping track, and more info about credits. I always see people talking about them, and I have always wondered.

It's pretty self explanatory. People keep track of how many coasters they have ridden in their lifetime.

Some keep a spreadsheet, some write it down on a piece of paper, and others log their credits on certain coaster websites that offer that feature.

People keep track records of all the coasters they've been on if they travel a lot to amusement parks, and as stated above I've known people who write down their rides in a notebook, some keep a spreadsheet, and some use websites such as coaster-count.com, coastercounter.com, coasterfanatics.com and thrillnetwork.com to keep track of their credits. I personally have my track record a few places, including in my profile at this website...

Why do people keep track of credits? In my opinion, I think it has to do with bragging rights. You can tell your friends you went on 300 coasters. Than, your friend tries to go on 304 coasters. I don't see the point of riding Spacely's Sprocket Rockets, and than go to another park that has that same ride (with different name), and riding that too just because it's a credit.

I tried Spacely's Sprocket Rockets not for the credit, but because I really liked the Ochamogree (whatever) Rampage at Cypress Gardens, and that ride is really awesome. If I liked Spacely's Sprocket Rockets (which I don't), I would definitely try to get on it at any park just because I like it.

As I said before, I just like to separate rides into great, good, and bad so when I go back to SFOT whenever, I won't be going on Texas Giant, Rodeo, Carousel, Trabant, Gunslinger, Titan, Superman: Tower of Power, Roaring Rapids (Bad in my opinion), only once or twice on the Looney Tunes dark ride, (Good), and going on La Vibora, Mr. Freeze, Shockwave (not SFGAm's by the way), Mine train (regular), Runaway Mountain, Batman and others (Great) alot.
The "real" Santa Clause is St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas had a wealthy family, and his parents died. He gave of what he had because God said to, to poor children. He gave gifts to them. The tradition continues today. The Americanized Santa Claus is basically so people that don't believe in saints or God at all can participate.

What if you just enjoy the experience you have and keep track because you don't want to forget or have a goal credit wise?

To me, credits are more of a reminder of what trips I have taken, both big and small. When I look at my credit list and see rides that are gone (Python at Busch Gardens Africa) it brings back memories of trips from my childhood. For more recent trips, like Kiddieland this year, seeing the Little Dipper on my list reminds me of the adventure it took driving there.

This is a roller coaster forum and I figured that would be an acceptable thing to post in my signature seeing as other roller coaster enthusiasts might be interested to know what I base my opinions off of...

^Dude it a milestone! You will understand once/if you start going to other parks. You cant ride 200 different coasters and not be proud of it. I was pissed when I didn't make a sign for my 100th (Fairly Odd Coaster at MOA).

The whole track record thing is just for fun. It's fun trying to ride kiddie coasters and having to pull strings or borrow a kid to ride them. I could tell you probably 10 or 15 funny stories about riding kiddie coasters.

^ That's what you think  Once you get over 400 I'm gunna have to plan some trips agian.

Seriously though, it's just for fun. I figure if I spend so much time riding coaster why not know how many I've been on. After awhile you forget some of the smaller parks that you've been to, so having an online track record is good for remember where you've been.
